Dr. Thomas directs biological studies on targeting and therapeutic functions of nanoparticles. After completing his visiting fellowship in the Laboratory of Tumor Immunology and Biology at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland, he joined the University of Michigan in 1987 and has served as a research faculty member of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has also served as the Associate Director of the Biochemistry Core of the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center. He is the author of more than 30 papers on a range of topics in enzymology, tumor cell biology, and diabetes and has received independent and collaborative research funding. His current research interests include tumor targeting by multifunctional dendrimers, and detection of target functions by 2-photon fluorescence measurement.
