M-NIMBS Symposium on Nanotechnology Approaches to Genetic Diagnostics
The Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences held its second endowed Nanotechnology Symposium, named in honor of one of our benefactors, Mr. Herbert D. Doan, the former Chairman of the Dow Chemical Company. The Symposium focused on Nanotechnology and the cross-disciplinary nature of Genetic Diagnostics. It was held on Monday, March 31, 2008.
We presented a scientific session on nanomaterials and techniques with presentations by world–famous experts in Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering, including James W. Schneider, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA and the Herbert D. Doan keynote speaker, Charles Cantor, Ph.D., founder, Chief Scientific Officer, and Member, Board of Directors, at SEQUENOM, Inc., San Diego, CA.
 |
Dr. Schneider is an expert in the development of novel surfactant-like materials for rapid DNA sequencing and quantification, capillary electrophoresis, and colloidal force measurements. |
| Herbert D. Doan keynote speaker, Dr. Cantor is an expert in BioEngineering, molecular medicine, large scale genome sequencing and nanoscale analysis. |
 |
This was an exciting discourse that informed us about important progress in molecular diagnostics, genome sequencing and nanoscale analysis.
