Dr. Choi is a Research Associate Professor in the Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences (MNIMBS), and the department of Internal Medicine at University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor. Dr. Choi earned his BS and MS degrees both at Seoul National University, Korea, PhD degree in Chemistry at Columbia University (advisor: Professor Koji Nakanishi), New York, and then completed his postdoctoral training at Professor George M. Whitesides laboratories, Harvard University, Massachusetts. In 1997, he started his career as an industrial scientist at Advanced Medicine (currently, Theravance Biopharma Inc.) in South San Francisco, California where he developed expertise in the therapeutic translation of a polyvalent concept to small molecule drug discovery. In late 2008, he joined the faculty of University of Michigan Medical School. His primary research interests are focused on the development of nanotechnology platforms for targeted drug delivery and imaging devices in cancers and infectious diseases, and on exploring the active release mechanisms using photochemistry. Dr. Choi has published more than 60 peer reviewed papers and book chapters, and is awarded 76 US patents. He has actively served as peer reviewers for numerous journals and grant study sections, and participated in editorial positions including his associate editor role in NanoImpact (Elsevier).
